The Importance of Personal Touch in Today’s Business World

Feb 12, 2019 | Trends

We all have people in our lives who we care about and who care about us. How much time do we spend building these relationships? We dedicate time with them. We go for coffee, watch a movie, talk on the phone, and the list goes on and on. We want to know their feelings and ambitions. We become invested in the relationship and work hard to let them know we care. Our business relationships should be treated the same way. In today’s business world we try to stay efficient. We want to get things done fast. After all, it’s easier to just send an email or a mass newsletter to our client list.

Building a strong business relationship takes time and dedication. Our clients need to know we care. They are smart. They can tell if we are truly invested in their needs or if we view them as just another dollar sign. I promise you, most people would much rather do business with someone they can trust and know cares about them.

Ask yourself…. Who are you more loyal to? Someone who takes time to know your needs and makes you feel appreciated, or someone who can get the job done fast and cheap? Who will you call when you have an important project?

Face to Face
While email, text, and newsletters are important, nothing can take the place of face to face time spent with a client. Would you consider a relationship with your best friend to be as strong if you only interacted through email? Sometimes a quick drop in to say “Hello” can make all the difference.

Happy Clients are the Best Clients
Your clients need something other than what they are paying for. They need you to understand their wants, needs and perspective for you to deliver exactly what they want. Once you establish a relationship, you must build on it. Not only will you see an impact on your business, but you will feel more satisfaction in the service you provide.

Commitment
Think of a few of your clients. Could your relationship be stronger? Call them and ask if they would like to meet for coffee sometime. They may be pleasantly surprised. Make them a priority on your calendar. Remember, this is not a one time and done thing. What are some things you would like for someone to do for you? The saying goes… Treat others as you want to be treated. Making someone else smile will put a smile on your face.
